    There was an odd tree that stood about twenty miles east of Bump City. More specifically, it grew on the backside of old man Grimm’s Happy Valley Cemetery, just off the Blue Mountain Pass Highway. The Umatilla legend told of an evil spirit that lived in that tree. The spirit had the power to steal thoughts from anyone who came near it. In fact, according to the legend, if you stayed near the tree too long, you could lose your mind! Maybe it isn’t the tree, but rather what lives inside.
